Message From the President |
ASID Connecticut hosted its annual Town Hall meeting in February
which was well attended by members, industry partners, and
students. Thank you to Scofield Lighting for supporting the
event. The speaker for the evening, Angela Merola, (www.angelamerola.com),
provided valuable insight to working more effectively with
clients and fine tuning contracts. This event included CEU
credits.
ASID CT Career Night gave students an opportunity to have their
portfolios viewed by professional designers. Kenneth Roberts,
interior designer and architectural recruiter, (www.interiortalent.com),
spoke about the job market today and how to market yourself for
the job you want.
ASID CT co-hosted the Design Forum on April 1 with HBRA (Home
Builders & Remodelers Association of Fairfield County) and NKBA
(National Kitchen & Bath Association, Southern New England
Chapter). Participants at this event had the opportunity to
interact with design industry resource professionals, designers
and students. This event also included CEU credits.
ASID National has set a policy that will affect ALL interior
designers in ALL 50 states. ASID will make a commitment to
support legislation at the state level. If you’d like more
information about legislative policy and how it affects YOU,
please see the articles on our website
www.asidct.org
We have many NEW exciting events being planned now, (that won’t
cost you anything!), we will keep you informed of events and
dates.
Sincerely,

Betsy McGuire ASID

Help Wanted |

The ASID CT Program Chairs are starting to plan the Annual Meeting
which will be held on September 9th.
Last year we were at the Marriott in Trumbull, and it was a
lovely event, but for 2009 they've decided to stir things up,
creative juices are flowing and they are looking for an ASID
'angel' to offer their home or backyard as the venue.

They're thinking tent and The
Big Green Truck Pizza Company! Dare to be different! If
there is a kind soul out there who would like to be part of

ASID CT Career Night was hosted by Paier College
of Art on March 5th. It was a HUGE success with over 40 students
and professionals.
Kenneth Roberts from Interior Talents gave an
extremely motivating and informative presentation on “How to
Promote Yourself in a Tough Market”.
The students had a great evening networking,
participating in mock interviews, and doing portfolio reviews.
Thank you to all of the vendors for being
a part of this event and to Paier College of Art for hosting the
event and of course to Kenneth Roberts giving us an amazing
presentation.
A special thanks to the students without you we
would not have had such a successful event. |

or time period, an artist or other thinker, etc. Anything that
is indispensable to your design! (See pg. 48 of the
January/February 2009 issue of ASID ICON.)
If you would like to be featured, please e-mail

Lunch & Learn After Six Event: An Evening In France |
Kitchens by Deane
Lunch & Learn After Six Event
January 13, 2009
An Evening In FranceOn January 13th Kitchens by Deane
hosted an After Six event in their new New Canaan showroom.
Designer/manager Terry Scarborough, ASID, CMKBD welcomed
twenty-five designers with a sumptuous spread of gourmet hors
d’oeuvres catered by Fabulous Feasts and a French wine tasting
by The Respected Palate both of New Canaan. |
|

|
To the delight of the guests, Alexis Gion, eastern
representative for La Cornue, demonstrated the new CornuFe’
stove with a batch of chocolate chip cookies. While they waited
for the cookies to be ready, he showed the designers the latest
color palate and answered questions in his charming French
accent. The showroom model is Provence Blue opposite an island
that is custom colored in the same blue.Deane’s kitchen
designers pointed out GREEN design options in the new cabinets
and counter tops.
|
Texture in the wall coverings, lighting fixtures, and cabinets
commanded enthusiastic attention as well. Some of the dramatic
new looks are cabinets of bamboo, reconstituted oak, and dyed
ostrich skin. Specialty items such as configured drawer inserts
and interior cabinet accessories to hide everything from paper
towel dispensers to cutting boards drew squeals of surprise.
|
| The absolute star of the
show was the step stool that folds up and fits neatly
under the cabinet. Once in place it looks like a bottom
drawer complete with hardware. The question of where to
put the bulky stool has been solved. You just fold it up
and slide it into the slot. More information about

CCID |
The Connecticut Coalition of Interior Designers (CCID) is a not for
profit organization representing, promoting and informing on the positions of
the
interior design community. CCID is the unified voice for practicing interior
designers in Connecticut, regardless of their design specialty or business
association affiliation that…
- Works to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public by
promoting the level of competency required for minimum standards of
practice.
- Promotes interior designers by establishing the practice as a recognized
design profession with its’ own scope of services as separate from other
design professions.
- Supports the need for interior design certification in regard to public
safety, consumer benefits, and right to practice.
- Promotes the importance of interior design registration to enable
Connecticut consumers to choose among various design professions according
to the consumer’s level of need and scope of project.
- Clarifies the concerns of building officials and legislators regarding
the scope of work interior designers practice in relation to the services
offered by architects and other design providers.
- Educates on when building officials and fire marshals may accept
interior design documents for permitting purposes.
- Advocates for Interior Designers to collaborate with other design
professionals and ensure that interior designers may hire them as
consultants as necessary.
- Acts both administratively and legislatively on regulatory matters
impacting the practice of interior design in Connecticut.
- Helps resolve interdisciplinary issues related to interior designers and
their practice.
- Shares the vision of 28 other jurisdictions and provinces of fostering a
favorable climate for right to practice by focusing on current and future
legislative issues of the interior design profession.
Perhaps CCID's most resonating impact is reflected by an interior design
student's statement: "As a student entering the design field, I want to be sure
my profession is well respected. CCID is making that happen and ensuring the
future of interior designers in Connecticut. Its existence is safeguarding all
interior designers."
