Hamden Home Makeover Gives Family of Nine Back Their Home
The Hamden House Makeover publicity and the goodwill generated by the project go
to several local businesses that with their philanthropic philosophies came
through in a mighty way!
The music and construction ministries of Black Rock Congregational Church in
Fairfield, Connecticut, combined efforts to assist this large family. They have
been at the church for many years and have contributed in many ways to our
community and spiritual growth. In the spring of 2008 we became aware of the
many needs within their home that were below functional.
|
|

Before |
Plaster walls and finished floors complicate the necessary access to
electrical lines, plumbing pipes and mechanical runs. Unseen conditions,
which always seem to accompany restoration projects, are difficult to
predict and can be |
|
exceedingly expensive. Simply put,
historic homes, especially when they are almost 70 years old come with issues.
Those issues were overcome by the terrific team of volunteers and donors.
|
|

After |
We would like to formally thank the donors for their generous contributions. The
project credits its success to the generous outpouring of community effort from
the Black Rock Congregational Church volunteers and donors, painters, plumbers,
cabinet installers and carpenters that partnered to make this a reality. Due to
the efforts of interior designer Gail Ingis, ASID, the ASID (American Society of
Interior Designers) Trade organizations and Connecticut businesses stepped up to
the plate and provided services and materials to make this house a home.
Everyone asked said “yes.”
Diana Rattazzi, Sales Representative for Benjamin Moore & Co Industry Partner
ASID, provided paints along with Larry Curry, VP/owner of Westport’s Brandman’s
Paint & Decorating. Fred Kaoud of Kaoud Oriental Rugs, Industry Partner ASID in
Wilton, provided six Oriental rugs, selected by Gail Ingis and her home owner
client, of beauty and durability to enhance and protect the restored oak wood
flooring that was sanded and restained by Jimmy Neal and project coordinator
George Olt of Neal’s Wood Flooring of Branford.
Skye Kirby, VP of stores & marketing of Lillian August of Norwalk provided a
magnificent chest-on-chest of drawers for the master bedroom, tall storage
cabinet for he dining room, and aesthetic and practical chest of drawers for the
daughter’s bedroom. Marsillio’s Appliance & TV in Fairfield, Dave Marsillio
provided at their cost, a new dishwasher and new stove. ProSource of Milford
provided the porcelain tiles installed in the kitchen, bathroom and entryway
which provided a practical application for a very heavily trafficked area. For
the very functional and aesthetic window blinds so important to provide energy
conservation and privacy, we thank Lee Tannenbaum, VP/owner of Mill Supply, the
Halsey Themper Co. Industry Partner ASID of Hamden, CT.Hamden Home Makeover

Student Corner |

The University of New Haven ASID Student Chapter had a fun filled weekend
October 18th & 19th! |
|
 |
|
It started with its community service event of the month, the New Canaan Fair!
The UNH student members set up a face painting table for the children.
They painted butterflies, |
dogs, cats, and even SPIDERMAN!! The
children loved it and some parents were so impressed they asked if the
students were interested in doing birthday parties! This was a great
event to get ASID out in the community!
|

|
|
|
Sunday, October 19th, was the UNH Welcome Picnic at Sleeping Giant State Park.
This is an annual event for the university, but this year they opened it up to
all of the ASID Connecticut Student Chapters. |
|
 |
The event was a Western Theme complete with lassos, cowboy hats, and country
music! It was a great bonding event for each chapter, and a wonderful
opportunity to socialize with fellow student chapters!
|
| Many thanks to the UNH ASID Student Chapter for its
generosity and we are all looking forward to next year’s event! Also,
congratulations to the UNH Chapter, who did an amazing job representing
our organization! |
 |
|
Keep up the great work!
On November 11th, the Paier College of Art ASID Chapter was
invited to visit Brass City Tile in Waterbury. We took a tour of the
showroom and learn about some new products such as recycled glass
mosaics, concrete countertops, water etched stone, etc. All of the
students had a wonderful time! Thank you to Brass City Tile we
appreciate the generosity and we are looking forward to another visit! |
