Message From the President |
|
I am thrilled to be President of Connecticut’s Chapter of
ASID. My goals for this year are many; one goal is to get to
know as many of you as possible. I hope to have conversations
with you, listening to your concerns about the industry.
This is an exciting time for the interior design profession,
with a focus on saving our planet through “green” design and
sustainable products. As designers, we strive to increase the
health, welfare and safety of the public. We have the education
and experience to implement these important principles in a
creative and functional way.
ASID has been a valuable tool for me, meeting colleagues,
expanding my sources, and interacting with students, who always
have fresh ideas and lots of enthusiasm. I hope that ASID
provides you with the same advantages.
Do you know the many benefits of being an ASID member?
On-line referral service - Free to practitioner members with
your ASID membership, the referral service allows you to market
yourself to potential clients through the creation of a personal
profile complete with pictures of your projects, descriptions of
your work, maps of your location, and much more.
Access to the ASID Web site 24 hours a day - You can change the
photos you have displayed, update your contact information, and
revise your profile.
Clients can easily find a designer that fits their needs - Once
they complete a short form about the type of project they are
planning, the search engine will generate a list of designers
that match the search criteria. The customer can then click on
individual designer listings to view the profiles.
Career Development - Marketing Tools (such as “How to Get Your
Work Published”), Publications, Contracts, Low-cost group life,
disability and professional disability insurance, ASID
MasterCard, ASID Job Bank to name a few.
Industry partners - Work to improve products and services,
educate and showcase their products/services to the industry,
have a listing in the online and hard copy ASID Resource Guide
and Industry Partner Directory, have a link from ASID Web site
to their company Web site.
Take advantage of the many tools that ASID has to offer, get
involved by attending meetings and events and develop
relationships to grow your business.
I look forward to seeing you at the next Connecticut ASID event!
Sincerely,

Betsy McGuire ASID

Student News |
Hello Students,
By now we have visited all of the schools and talked with all of
our wonderful Interior Design Students, previous members, upper
classmen, freshman students, and potential members.
I would like
to welcome all of the New Student Members to our ASID Chapter.
Thank you for joining ASID, I hope that ASID makes a wonderful
impression in your life as it has done to mine, in such a short
time. I hope to personally meet all of you soon.
It is that time students...THE FASHION SHOW!!!! Our annual
Fashion Show Event is now open for student registration. This
year's theme is “Green Design”. The Fashion Show is one of our
biggest events for our students.
Two students, an interior
designer, and an Industry Partner are paired up and asked to
make an outfit out of the industry partner’s material. It is a
fun way to meet students from the other chapters and a way to
display some of your work.
If you would like to sign up please contact Stacey Lyons,
Fashion Show Committee Chairperson at
stacey.lyons@cexp.com. |

On Saturday September 13th, members of the ASID
CT Chapter Fashion Show 2009 “Green Design” Committee, Stacey
Lyons, Allied Member ASID, Sara Hopkins, Allied Member
ASID and Christine Bottacari, UNH Student Member ASID, put their
efforts into the theme and participated in the International
Coastal
Clean up project.
The event took place at the Grace Salmon Memorial Park in
Westport, CT.
From 9am to 11am volunteers gathered to help clean
up the river
banks.
The group from ASID CT collected 251 items from the river
during the two hours.
Among the items was
a 10 foot long metal sign
floating in the river.

The
International Coastal Cleanup project takes place one day a year
all over the world and together collects over
6 million pounds of waste
from our oceans and
rivers.
Here are some interesting facts about waste found in our water
ways. One glass bottle takes 1 Million years to decompose, 1
plastic bottle takes 450 years, an aluminum can takes anywhere
from 80-200 years, foamed plastic
cups and tin cans 50 years, and a plastic bag takes 10 years to
decompose.
So on behalf of the 2009 Green Design Fashion Show Committee we
would like you to join us in our efforts to protect
the environment.
Next time you throw
something away with out
recycling it think about how long it takes for nature to decompose
that product.
There are smalls ways that each of us and reduce and
reuse our products and as designers it is our job to educate
ourselves
about Green Design and
educate our clients,
because we never know
where that item might
end up.

Designer of the Month |

Simply put,
Klaff's bathroom designers are experts. Architects and interior
decorators rely on our in-house bath designers to recommend
exciting and state of the art bath fittings.
|
|
A Klaff's
bath design professional has an average of over 14 years
experience in residential plumbing sales and bath design.
The bath designers are experienced and schooled in the
reading of blueprints to analyze the correct selection of
bath fittings and bath furniture from our bath showroom.
Klaff's
bath designers |
 |
|
|
can discuss
and help you plan the intricacies of luxurious, large bathrooms
with multiple sinks, toilet and bidet, separate tub and shower
stalls. They can also help with optimizing bathrooms with
minimal space and still leave lots of room for imagination,
dreaming, and adapting. At your request we can introduce you to
a tile design specialist from Klaff's tile & stone showroom to
integrate a custom tile design.
Valuable
design consultations are available in our showroom where a bath
design professional can walk you through over two dozen actual
bathrooms, assisting in the selection of state of the art bath
fixtures.

Klaff's Nantucket inspired "Wave Bath" was created with
hand-chopped marble mosaics arranged in a whimsical design.
The waves top the oversized cabana stripes and are framed with
polished stone moldings. The confetti mosaic floor with its
custom stripe borders are a fresh blend of white, light blues,
soft green and grey.
Against this theme are polished chrome fittings and accessories
from Harrington Brass Co., a St. Thomas pedestal sink and an
oval ellipse tub from BainUltra.
Klaff's designers are Annie Kearney, Tile and Stone Manager,
Klaff's of Danbury and Joseph Passero, Klaff's Chairman & COO. |
